Software development requires the right set tools and development environment. It is always a dilemma to pick the platform for development - which one I choose? - J2ME, GCC or any other proprietary environment such as Windows mobile SDK or s60 development environment. It is appropriate to pick up the open source platform, as this site promotes only open source for mobile.
Please understand that we do not just mean phones, we also mean all embedded devices. This brings in a lot of dynamics into the environment - different hardware platforms, embedded devices and software platforms.
Do the current open source tools provide support for all these variations? I do not know, yet.
I leave this post with a thought - At present, all mobile applications are developed on a PC and then ported to the mobile devices. Do we get an opportunity to develop on the mobile platform itself?
