As promised, I am posting all the files required for booting HTC Wizard using linwizard kernel. The zImage, initrd (it is a cramfs), default.txt file and the HaRet are available in the vairam.zip
I used the linwizard-silven for compiling the kernel. The .config file created using “make menuconfig” is also available as part of the zip archive. For your convenience, I have included default.txt and haret as well.
Since I wanted to create my own root file system, I have created INITRD which includes busybox.
This version boots HTC Wizard in less than 15 seconds with this basic setup.Â
This is still in development. Since this is a highly unstable version, use it at your own risk.
The efforts are on to get the stabler version. Many keys are recognizaed and system crashes on some key stroke.Â
The vairam.zip is available here. Please give me your feedback and suggesstions.

I finally converted the mobile phone in to a desktop!
I borrowed the source code from Linwizard and cross compiled on my openSuse. I borrowed the initrd file also from linwizard.
I copied zImage and Initrd to my SD card and booted using HaRET.
The journey was smooth and in about 30 seconds, the HTC Wizard booted into Linux and the login prompt appeared. I logged in as root. There is no password for this account!!
When I issued the command “startx”, the GPE came alive with a touch screen caliberation screen. On completion, it started the GPE desktop - the GPE-enabled mobile phone is ready for operation, but without any phone functionality
I am looking under the hood to understand the complexities involved.
One thing you can expect - I will log everything.
This is what I did to boot HTC Wizard using Linux
- git cloned gnimirror http://mirrors.gni.com/mirrors/linwizard/polaris/linwizard-kernel.git
- Created a local branch
- make htcwizard_defconfig
- Changed the CROSS_COMPILE option to reflect the prefix of the command
- Make zImage
- Copy the zImage to SD card
- Copy the initrd from linwizard site
- Booted using Haret

Thanks to the efforts of LinWizard folks, my Windows Mobile got the taste of Linux for the first time in its life. Does it feel happy? I do not know, but I was thrilled, even though there was a kernel panic, initially.
I downloaded the linwizard version 0.2.0 and uncompressed it to the SD mini disk. I tried haret-0.5.2 as the boot loader - kernel panic resulted. I rebooted my machine and used the haret-0.5.0, I got the first success.
I got a root prompt and logged in as root. There is no password for root in this version. The penguin is sitting pretty on my mobile screen, smiling at me, non-stop. Oh, what a feeling.
I logged in, went to user bin and launched startx - ta da - the X booted up and the xclock and a xterm showed up.
Amazing guys, hats off to you (LinWizard folks), fantastic effort. The image at the bottom is the proof
