I installed Ubuntu server on the sun xVM virtual box. This is the first time, I tried any form of Ubuntu in my machine. Since the machine is a quad-core with more than 3GM RAM, I decided to run it on a virtual machine and I tried the combination which I did not attempt earlier. As soon as the server was installed, I tried to boot the server - it died with the following cryptic error message.
Starting up …
This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU: 0:6
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.
I tried a couple of times and I was wondering what could have gone wrong. Googled for about a few minutes and someone already had tried this combination and resolved the error too. The trick is to enable the PAE/NX option and restart the virtual machine and the Ubuntu server.
Then it booted to an environment which I am familiar with for almost 14 years
